Jeevan Jyot Foundation
At the heart of medicine lies a simple truth: every life deserves a fair chance to live.
Over the years, as a transplant surgeon, I have witnessed both the miracles and the heartbreaks of organ failure. I have seen patients return to life after transplantation—and I have also seen far too many lose their battle simply because they reached us too late, could not access care, or could not find an organ in time. These are not failures of science. They are failures of systems, awareness, access, and opportunity.
The field of organ transplantation has made extraordinary progress across the world. Outcomes have improved, procedures have become safer, and thousands of lives are saved every day. Yet in India, we continue to struggle with low organ donation rates, limited access to transplant care, gaps in awareness, and uneven implementation of policies. The result is a widening gap between what is medically possible and what is socially accessible.
Jeevan Jyot Foundation was born from a simple but powerful belief: no one should be denied a second chance at life because of lack of awareness, access, or resources.
Our mission is to break barriers in transplantation—medical, social, economic, and systemic. We work to create awareness about organ failure and transplantation, to promote ethical deceased and living organ donation, to improve access to affordable transplant care, and to advocate for stronger, more patient-centric policies and systems. We believe that real change happens not only in operating rooms, but also in communities, classrooms, hospitals, and government offices.
This is not a journey any one person or institution can undertake alone. It requires the collective will of doctors, nurses, administrators, policymakers, donors, patients, families, and citizens who believe that saving lives is a shared responsibility.
Through Jeevan Jyot Foundation, we aspire to build a future where timely transplantation is not a privilege for a few, but a right for all who need it—and where every organ donation becomes a beacon of hope for another life.
Thank you for believing in this mission and for walking this path with us.
About the Founder
Dr. Gaurav Patel is a senior transplant surgeon and clinician-leader with over a decade of experience in Liver, Kidney, Pancreas, and Intestinal Transplantation, along with complex Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary (HPB) surgery. He has been directly involved in more than 1,000 organ transplants across adult and paediatric patients, including both living and deceased donor procedures.
Trained at the Montefiore Einstein Center for Organ Transplantation, New York (USA), Dr. Patel brings globally benchmarked, ethically grounded transplant practices to India. His clinical work focuses on early identification and timely treatment of advanced liver disease, with a strong emphasis on appropriate referral and long-term outcomes—because in transplantation, timing and access save lives.
Dr. Patel is the Founder of Jeevanjyot Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting underprivileged transplant patients, especially children. The Foundation works to bridge critical gaps in access to care by helping patients navigate evaluation, treatment, follow-up, and long-term support—so that financial or social barriers do not stand between a patient and a life-saving transplant.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Patel has published in national and international medical journals and is the author of The Science of Early Parenting. His mission is to help build ethical, accessible, and patient-centred transplant ecosystems, guided by four core principles: donor safety, ethical decision-making, transparent counseling, and durable patient outcomes.
